I removed the quill tonite to wax it. The tension spring kept skipping as I tried to put it back in it seems the little nub sticking out is not grabbing the spring and sliding forward to lock onto it any trick to doing this?

So I got it on twice but Everytime I turn it to reverse it comes back off again. What do you think?

I think you need to STOP 'reversing' it.

Once 'connected' tension MUST be maintained.

Any reversing MUST be accomplished by the spring tension ONLY.

And not just a light tension, you need to always maintain enough tension to pull the quill back into the headstock throughout its full range. You never reduce the tension to the point that the spring can come loose, but proper tensioning will always be enough to strongly pull the quill back.

3 - 4 complete turns gets that required tension.

I was looking through his sessions and watching anything he has on the bandsaw when I re-discovered this session. His videos are so incredibly helpful I was very worried that we lost them a couple of weeks ago. So glad they are back! Enjoy.

Perhaps a missing detail. The tension must be created(4 turns?) and then the quill feed gear engaged with the quill gear rack.
