What a great resource! I recently bought a like new shopsmith 520 and am just getting around to learning it. I purchased several special purpose tools, planer, jointer, bandsaw and belt sander from shopsmith. I have a slight problem. I have the manuals that came with the tools, but I dont see the instructions on actually attatching the tool to the headstock. I know I use the attachment and plug that into the headstock. It looks to me like the table saw blad must be removed first, would make sense that you dont want that guy spinning around while using the bandsaw, YIKES! Anyway, could anyone point me in the right direction for making the connections? I have looked through several online manuals, but I cant find what I am looking for. Any help would be so appreciated.

Won't cost much and they will answer almost every basic question a newbie is likely to have. Also, I strongly suggest you attend one of Shopsmith's Traveling Academies (http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/trav ... gister.htm) as soon as one comes within driving distance. You won't regret it. The instructor will not only answer all your questions, but also a thousand others you didn't know to ask.

To answer your immediate question, your SPTs (Special Purpose Tools such as the jointer, band saw, belt sander, and so on) are mounted on the opposite side of the headstock as the saw blade, drill chuck, sanding disc, etc. (the left side as you face the speed dial). The mounting posts beneath the SPTs fit in the vertical holes in the Power Mount. (See http://www.shopsmith.com/markvsite/features.htm to familiarize yourself with the parts of the Shopsmith and the terminology we use on this forum.) The Power Coupler (little white tube-like doodad about 6" long, see http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... oupler.htm.) transfers power from one of the power take-offs on the left end of the headstock to the drive shaft of the SPT.
