Re-gasketing the Dust Collector

I have desperate need to re-gasket my dust collector.

Are there any words of wisdom as to where the adhesive gasket should be applied.

In this image you see the Motor Housing with the gasket adhered to it. I am thinking about removing that gasket and applying new gasket material to the Main Housing where the Motor Housing resides.

If I did this, I would do it everywhere that this type gasket is used.

Is there a right and wrong way?

The 'right way" is whatever works.

IIRC, the installation of the motor housing tends to move the seals away from where they are needed.

I think compressing the seal and releasing the seal AFTER installation would work. Trick is how to compress/release.

Perhaps a thin slippery piece of plastic to prevent the insertion from moving the seal????

Take a look at the shape of the motor housing where it mates with the Main Housing. It has a taper. Smaller at the bottom than at the bottom.

Really don't like the routing of that power cord.

I have a plan. 1) Reattach the Motor Housing to the Fan Housing. 2) Remove the Manifold and 4" Coupler Assembly seen in photos. Leave the Coupler attached to the Manifold. 3) Install the DC-6000 Dust Collector Assembly into the Main Assembly. Secure it so that it will not fall. 4 Mount the Manifold Assembly (with Coupler) and Secure with Bracket.

One piece of gasket has not been installed. It is the one that initiated this effort - the big gap over the top of the motor housing. It will be attached before this installation begins - for the final time.

Don't forget to seal on the top of the motor housing where it meets the side of the DC-3300 (see below):

I intend to put one piece of foam on the side wall for the Motor Housing to press against and then another piece on top )following the curvature to complete the seal.

I am also planning Tub and Tile Caulk between the Motor Housing and the Fan Housing. I don't believe there will be a leak there but I don't want Dave to say "I told you so".

Forgot to mention earlier, I believe what you have shown here looks good to me for sealing it up. I just wanted to highlight that curved part at the back. When I re-did my DC-3300 a while back I added a seal there because mine didn't have one there originally.

I like this approach better than OEM. How will you get the foam donut into position around the 4" coupler? My only idea is two foam half-donuts. I will probably do the same if/when I get a replacement motor housing.

If there is any way that you can thermocouple the top of your motor before installing it that would be my suggestion and request. I'm realistic regarding my chances (single digit %) of gaining a listener at SS if I'm the only one reporting a thermal concern. This would also help you manage the thermal problem if there is one. I'm going to put mine on top, between 2" - 3" forward of the rear of the motor.

I used the provided 4" coupler and took the foam off. No foam on coupler. I then connected the coupler to the Manifold. With ther Motor Housing and Fan Housing connected together I installed that assembly into the Main Housing. Now you install the Manifold with the 4" coupler.

The foam was previously applied to the pieces that capture the coupler. This was a lot easier than trying to work the assembly in place with the coupler on it.

I still wonder how much more airflow, if any, this upgrade gives over the original blower design. I saw a video on FB for someone who did the upgrade, but the 42" filter hood didn't inflate anymore than my DC-3300 does, i.e. it doesn't fully inflate like it should leaving part of the filter hood collapsed (see video at link below). In fact, I think my stock DC-3300 inflates the 42" filter hood more than shown in this video:
