shopsmith mark v coupling

what is needed to hook a tool like the beltsander to the shopsmith mark 5

Thad,
You will need either the coupler]

Usually you will find the hubs already on the headstock, but if you do knot have them, order the kit. You may also need the hubs that come with the SPT's;

i have the coupler ends on my tools what does the ends on the shopsmith look like

The hubs on the accessories are 5 spline and the hubs on the Mark V are 4 spline. If you click on the links that I gave you in the other post, you can see pictures of them.

they are on whichever end you put them on.
the jig saw, belt sander and planer will operate from the right side. the jointer and air compressor will operate from the lower shaft on the left side of the headstock. most other spt's operate from the upper shaft on the left side of the headstock.

If you use an SPT, whichever shaft that you hook up to must have a hub. When using the SS as a table saw, flat or conical disk sander, drill press, horizontal boring machine, lathe, router, shaper, molder, etc., etc., you take the hub off (but do knot loose it).

A good way to KNOT LOSE the hub is to "store" it on the left shaft. It is safer than the bare(flatted) shaft anyway. Use the long hub.
