Well that's unfortunate
As I continue cleaning I discovered this. The slide locks were very worn and I think the PO got in the habit of overtightening it.....

Not a show stopper. A simple bridge across the crack(closed) should make it serviceable. They come up often on E-Bay.

I have a cracked one. That one is older than yours, 1954 I'm pretty sure. Someone mentioned they were sandcasting the aluminum parts back then and those would be more susceptible to cracking than the newer molded versions.

I took JPG's suggestion and put a strap across it on the inside -- 4 bolts holding it while the epoxy sets. Hopefully that will be the end of it.
