I've never had a Facebook account and don't want one. Usually when people post a link to their Facebook account, I can't see it because I can't log in. Even the pages that allow me in are so filled with ads and other crap that I'm lucky to have 1/4 of my screen for information. So, I just ignore Facebook and everybody who expects me to use it.[/quote]

Precisely my modus operandi.

I decided FB was a "terrible waste of time" and lacking any rational function over a decade ago. Age had nothing to do with that decision.

Sorry Betty I used thy accurate descriptor of FB.

Archie Comics reference??? A bit before my time... ;)

Yeah, I agree with you. I don't understand people who choose to treat social media, FB in particular, as their own personal video diary. FB is evil and should be dismantled or regulated into oblivion. I remember in the early days when it had come out and when a certain % of people at work were on FB, the computer network would grind to a halt throughout the day. Made it difficult to work. Some companies smartly blocked all FB traffic for a while which worked well until smartphones came along.

RFGUY - "I don't understand people who choose to treat social media, FB in particular, as their own personal video diary."

I would jump on that bandwagon, but then I'd have to come up with valid reasons why I post my personal wood projects to the group here..

We all are looking for recognition somehow, somewhere.

Maybe, but I don't see it that way. Sure there might be some aspect of validation involved, but I suspect many who post their projects on this forum are doing it a) to get feedback and b) to share with others for inspiration, etc. What I was referring to on FB are those who document every waking moment of their lives, posting their vacation pics while on vacation inviting burglars into their homes, etc., etc. Sorry, I didn't mean to de-rail this thread with my FB rant...

What rant?

I consider "b" to be why I 'reveal' stuff. "a" is nice though.

Marc may be correct about the title Archivist for you but Historian fits you too. We haven't herd lately about the progress on the book. I hope it is progressing well. As for archiving let me know when you need more material.
One thing I realized after I posted my earlier comment is that I think I mistakenly recognized the wrong person as the historian, it is you, Russ, who has been doing the wonderful, deep-dive histories. But there are several of you long term members, and ShopSmith owners, who bring such rich history to our discussions. It makes owning a ShopSmith more than just owning a shop tool.

Everett, I totally understand this move and have pondered doing the same. FB was a lot of fun before the advertisers and perpetual reposters took over. Glad you are still sticking around here. Scott

Said this before and I have to say it again, I don't text, I don't face and I don't twit!!! Those sites are like a 21st century Sodom and Gomorrah.
Stick with specific purpose sites like this one.
