Anybody have any experience using blades +/- 72" on their SS? With inventory issues at local shops, crazy shipping charges/loopy shipping times I've been tempted by some "off" size offerings on Amazon at good prices with next day shipping should I suffer another blade mishap and need one "now".

No experience. Are the oversize/undersize band saw blades really that much less expensive than buying a properly sized one off of Amazon or elsewhere? For what it is worth, Shopsmith has a sale on band saw blades going on through the end of today.

72 ± 1/2" should be ok.

I've used a Bosch 72-7/16" blade that Lowe's stocks successfully. IIRC it was 1/4" wide, and it was the only width they had. I think there was a spot on the shelf for another width. In the past I also had a local shop that made blades to whatever size you wanted at a competitive price from bulk blade stock. That was common practice at the time, though I don't know if it still is.

Thanks folks. I can find 72 1/2" for a fair price on Amazon and a couple of local stores. Fortunately me being dumb (freehanding biscuits from a log, I've made and use a sled now) didn't result in an injury or any other damage to the bandsaw other than the blade.
