My Wife does oil painting and wanted a better way to store her paints and brushes so we put the Shopsmith to work making this. We think this should do the job for her.

Looks great! I especially like how the embossed-leather handle straps double as a lid latch.

My Wife does leather tooling as well as wood carving and oil painting. She loves any kind of artistic jobs.

It is 15" x 10" x 8" high. It ended up being a lot heavier than we wanted. The metal slides for the tiny drawers are almost too heavy for the job, but I couldn't find any good lightweight and light duty slides.

For light contents like that, an alternate construction is to make the drawer bottom wider than the drawer, so that it slides in dados in the sides of the box.
There are photos of one I started, but didn't finish in this post. An old friend showed me this construction many years ago.

That's a nice box for carrying painting supplies around. Your wife is very talented and the leather work adds a very nice touch. You're not bad at the woodworking either.

Is there something that keeps the drawers closed while it is being carried around?
