Mortice and tenon

I am new to the motice and tenon fixtures. I have completed the tenons but must clean them up with a chisel even though I made small increment chiseling. I have cut the shoulders on the tenons and am ready to cut them off with the tenon master. After I complete these cuts I will still have material left on the edges of the material. Do I remove this with a chisel?
My face is red. I read the rest of the instructions for the full tenon cut and that answered my question. I still wonder about why I need to trim the edges of the mortices after using the mortice drills.

I find it is better to cut the mortise first and then cut the tenon to fit. How you get there isn't important as long as they fit snug. I leave a shoulder on all four sides of mine.
