I recently made the folding, tilting, self-raising outfeed tables that Nick shows off in one of the Sawdust Sessions. It works great and I like it a lot, so I use it a lot. Unfortunately having it on my Mark V means there is one more thing to remove to raise it up into drill press mode...

So I'm in the market for a dedicated drill press. After looking around at what is available it seems like an no-brainer to just pick up a 10er and make a short pedestal base for it. I like older tools, and an old Delta/Rockwell, Walker-Turner, or Craftsman 150 drill press like are common in this area are all equal or up to double the price of a 10er in decent shape with a speed changer.

Is there any reason I'm missing to go for a traditional drill press?

There are pictures online of 10ER machines attached to the wall as a drill press. Not mobile, but no need for any other base. You may find an old Model V/500 for sale for no more than a 10ER and you can easily make that into a dedicated drill press on a mobile base. That will give you a mobile base (assuming it has casters) and a simpler means of changing speed.
