Getting Ready for Grilling

Well- I've lived with this problem too long.

My grill is a cheap POS..but it actually makes a nice burger or steak.

The one issue - when i get to the grill- there is NO place to set anything down. Well- except the ground. Which is fine, except for the neighbors dogs , who for some reason, seem to be let out just as soon as I put a plate of raw meat on the ground.

So- i needed to come up with something to keep my plate off the ground and here it is .

It registers against the existing handle on the grill .

The rod slips into/out of the block for easy removal. You know- when it catches on fire

Im thinking I want to cut a curve into it to form fit a bit better the the grill cover shape..but maybe another day.

I have something like this. It isn't fancy, but it serves my needs. The only reason mine is this big is because in addition to using it for grilling, I also need it to smoke my homemade sausages and bacon. I make summer sausages that are around 20" long so I need to fit them into the grille, and this size does that job.

Your grille does the grilling just as well as a larger one, and you solved the problem of having a "parking" place for the tools and meat. Good thinking.

Nice job on a table for the Kettle style Grill. I always found not having table space to be an inconvenience too. Since we weren't using it I gave my Webber away a few years ago after replacing the wood on the handle for the cover. Of course, I made a replacement handle using my Shopsmith tools.

I ended up replacing the wood handle on my grille too. The original one was cracked from end to end due to moisture getting into it. I found a decent piece of hickory wood in my wood pile and made this.
