I just did a test on all of my saw arbors and was wondering how much runout is OK. I used the same blade for each test and measured with a dial indicator just inside the lowest gullet. I did not move the indicator between tests so that it would measure in the same place on the saw blade each time. The blade I used is a Forrest which is "guaranteed" flat to .001.

I used this test on 4 different arbors using the same blade and got runout between .006 and .012. Is this normal for Shopsmith arbors and if so, is it a problem?

.006" runout isn't bad, try marking the blade in relation th the set screw on the arbor then rotate the blade 90 degrees and check it again. With some blades you will see a big difference at the diferent positions and you can dial in almost no runout. Forrest blades are usually very close and don't change much when rotating. Also check the runout of the shaft.
