Nova slide jaws (no numbers found)

Hello, I bought through Shopsmith site a Nova G3 Pro-Tek reversible chuck. It came yesterday. I have never owned one before, but looking at video tutorials and such, I have an understanding the four slide jaws have a number marking on them. I can't find any on my four anywhere. The pin jaws and the 100mm jaws have a set of round dots indicating the order of assembly, but none that I can see on the main unit's slide jaws. I called about this, but it was after business hours. I'll call in the morning, but it's been driving me nuts all weekend.

My chuck is from about 2006 and has the numbers shown from the side:

The jaws were stamped on the underside with 1 to 4 like this:

Can't say what they are doing now.

Mine is marked the same as Ed's as shown in his pictures above. I bought it around 5 years ago.

A little sleuthing around the scroll interfacing parts will reveal sequence.

EDIT: Works fer slides, but not jaws.

The manual for the G3- Pro-Tek says there are dot patterns on edges of the jaws that are matched up.

I have been hesitant to reply on this thread because I don't now own a G3 chuck. I used to have one but I did not like it compared to my Oneway chuck. The Oneway chucks do have numbers on the carrier jaws that mount in the body but do not have numbers on the work holding jaws. The work holding jaws should be identical and should be able to be mounted in any position. One of my jaws has a pin in it that goes into a groove on the chuck body to prevent the jaws from being opened too far. But Oneway does permit that pin to be removed if the operator so chooses. I can't figure why the work holding jaws need numbers or any sequencing, once the carrier jaws are properly sequenced they will move uniformly and the work holding jaws will also move accordingly.

I believe each set of jaws are machined as a set, so for precision they need to be in the same position relative to each other, marking them with the carrier number was likely just an easy way to do that, the new Pro-Tek jaws use patterns at the outer corners of the jaws instead of the numbers to get the jaws in the correct sequence.
