SHOP NOTES: A short time ago Youtuber Mike Farrington made a bit of a splash with the introduction of his double-sided conical sanding disc. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/b-kXTKVVTL4My issue with it and other sanding discs that mount on a traditional table saw is the fact that they are spinning at table saw speed, which is somewhere around 4000 RPM. That's super-fast for an abrasive, and can lead to burning and quickly damaged abrasives; but what's a woodworker to do? It turns out that Shopsmith beat this conical disc to market by roughly 55 years when they introduced their original conical sanding disc. In this video, we'll dig into a little bit of history and put the current Shopsmith conical sanding disc to the test on some gnarly wood edges.
