Post by JPG »

I am starting this thread because I am struggling with it.

My first post will be regarding one drive.

HOW DOES ONE MAKE ONE DRIVE DISAPPEAR?

Post by JPG »

I have zero desire for this cloud function!

It seems to want to put stuff there rather than locally on my new pc.

By disappear I mean there remains no way for me to inadvertently cause stuff to go there.

I'm guess you are talking about OneDrive? If so it is an app and thus can be removed. Go to settings, Apps then installed Apps, go down to Microsoft OneDrive and look for the three dots on the right of the screen. When you click the three dots you can then click Uninstall.

We bought a new laptop for my Wife last month. It had Windows 11 on it, but we never got it booted up. Upon trying to boot, it insisted that we had to connect to a wireless network to continue. I connected to my wifi. Then, it started downloading or uploading or something and warned that I shouldn't stop it during that process. Then it allowed me to go to the next step which was to require me to sign up for a Microsoft account before I could continue. That was the final straw. Pressing the power off button solved all those issues.
Next I wiped the drive of any Microsoft issues and installed Ubuntu Linux. That solved all the Windows problems and I don't need a Microsoft account so they can monitor everything I do.
I'm an opinionated old SOB, and Microsoft isn't going to run my life.

It seems every time I post anything about windows I see a lot of hate for it........ so I will no longer answer windows questions after this one.

It is drag and drop. Find the directory you want then drag it to the desktop, it defaults to move so use the Ctrl key to do a copy.

Frustration with having to unlearn/learn methods between versions and updates.

Hate is too strong a word.

11 seems to have removed all right click functions.

Procedure used to be right click and drag then select copy/move/create shortcut.

I was getting frustrated that move was taking place.(always)

Thank You AGAIN!!!
