so is there a special track that would mount to the SS fence for this install ? only asking since it seems to be a good topic , I have seen the system but it has been a long time ago and the one I seen was in a commercial shop and I believe the fence had t bolt slots in the top. since my SS is the MK V 500 with the 510 table and fence it may be a issue to install ? a feather board is a minimum safety device IMO that offers a great deal of protection if set right. I have made and used many of them over the years , even had the fingers / feathers break apart in a kick back situation .
First, the difference between a 500 and a 510 is the table system. The rest of the machine is essentially the same. So if you have upgraded your 500 with the 510 table system you have in fact a 510. You need 510 saw arbors and blade guards etc..

As for the Jessem stock guides, they will mount directly to a 520 fence using one of the T slots on top. You don't need the Jessem supplied T track. That being said, I would think they should mount on a 510 fence since it has the same T slot on top as the 520 fence. There are a couple of threads here discussing the subject

IMO, a properly designed upper saw blade guard should include a riving knife that allows non-through cuts. This is the Shark Guard on my Powermatic PM2000. You can remove the blade guard itself and are left with a riving knife for non-through cuts.

Thanks John
I dont have the lower saw guard for the 510 table set up , there is a upper saw guard in the box of stuff I got with the table ,, I just never got around to getting the lower one . It was my understanding the upper saw guard for the 510 is mounted with a slot to the lower 510 saw guard . as far as the rest of the stuff mentioned you are right , I have most of it , there " is" a grove in the 510 fence and I understand it is for the hold down and what ever else , the 500 is held in by a set screw , I have the old hold down that works fine , I have to save room in the garage for other hobbies , starting to run out of drawers for this stuff lol .

A hole drilled/tapped in the 500 hold down end will allow attaching a SS tnut(using a short stud) etc. thus 'upgrading' to 510 version.

Thanks JPG that is interesting . I assume the head of the T-NUT bolt would need to be countersunk ?

I haven't looked at mine in a while, but I think the T nut has a stud in the center hole. SS used to sell them that way. I have also used threaded rod in the T nut holes. Screw the rod in flush with the bottom of the T nut and stake it. No countersink needed.

Note the parenthetical after tnut. The short stud takes the place of the male threads on the 510 version.

They still sell them that way, they are called T-Bolts. They are 5/16-18 thread, IIRC the T-Nuts have 1/4" and 3/8" threaded holes. https://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cat ... turesD.htm

I made a couple wooden adjustable stops to fit the slots in the HDP sacrificial fence in the picture , having the locking knobs on top would provide more opportunities .

I'm losing the plot here. What 500 piece is being tapped and what is being upgraded to the 510 version? Upper guard? Riving knife? Something else?
