In the event it becomes "necessary" to loosen the screws, use a harbor freight hammer operated impact wrench/screwdriver.

In my last post I was only referring to Jointers I have worked on. I have had stubborn fence screws on Model 10 restorations for the table fence bars and have used an impact screwdriver similar to the one JPG suggested with success. It can give that extra needed start to loosening the screws. Do use a blade size that fits snug in the screw's slot for best results.

And hold straight tightly and preload the rotation.

Takes some practice.

What helps it work is the force supplied by the hammer pushes against an internal cam that then pushed both towards the screw AND simultaneously rotates.
