I'm almost finished with the walnut rocking horse for "the Guys" the twins are due on Thurs the 28th. It has a wax finish, so I intend to give it some hand rubbing over the next few days...just noticed I need to get some teak under the chin. The head and body are connected with mortise and tendons, and 3inch #8 screws. Screw holes all plugged and glued. The joinery is sort of a new skill, haven't used a hand chisel in years. It was allot of fun. I guess I have to make another, but with one finished I figure I have a few months at least. Think I'll work on some intrasia.
Gee, Sawdust is fun.

GOOD LOOKING rocking horse Gary. Are you going to add a frayed rope for a tail? I think you have at LEAST another year to finish the second one.

WOW, Gary! That is one fine looking horse! I'm impressed by the sturdiness and smooth lines! Great joinery! This may be difficult to duplicate, but I know you can do it!

I'll bet it feels good to get back in the shop!

Now there is a hand me down rocker that should last for many generations. The finish you have on it looks great. If only I could get that good at sanding and finishing. And walnut I bet that took some time to sand. Great job there.

Gary

Nice looking rocking horse. I'm sure the grand kids will love it. There is nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you hand craft an item and see it being used by the recipients of the gift. I was at one of my daughters house this past Christmas and noticed she had a ornament I had turned and given to her on her tree. My next project is making a twin bed frame for one of my grandsons. Right now I am turning a replica of the NBA Championship Trophy for a contest going on at the Home Depot Store I work at. I will post a picture of it when it's done.
