I just purchased a used Sawsmith 2000 Ultra w/ Excalibur Fence that needs work for $375. It will need to be completely disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and waxed. There is also some sheetmetal damage that will need to be corrected (this appears to hold true to what Nick has stated about the cheaply made base). It also needs a motor refurb. I probably paid too much for it but it did come with almost every accessory and a fence and rail system that is practically new. The owner said he paid $1500 for it new! This included the molder and dado with inserts.

Does anyone have any spare parts for sale?

Also looking for casters...or at least what the casters looked like for this machine.

Any photos of some nice Sawsmith's out there other than what is out there on Song of the Great Lakes and the existing photo on the forum of the Ultra that was for sale in Kansas City?

After overhauling this baby, I think it might actually be useful. I currently have turned into a Shopsmith fan and have four Mark V's in my shop with most attachments. Still looking for that Planer though!

Congratulations on your find! I have been looking for one of those for years. I have heard mixed reviews on how good a saw they really are,but I still would love to have one. Please keep posting during your restoration process.

The Sawsmith 2000 (SS 2K) was a fairly short lived (in Shopsmith terms) tool that was sold up until about the mid-1990"s

Over the past year it appears that Shopsmith has tried to rid itself of their remaining parts inventory for the SS 2K. This took the form of a couple of e-mail specials and that mysterious "factory sale" that was announced only to a few folks. Some of these parts have subsequently appeared on eBay in recent months in the form of SS 2K table inserts, saw arbors, even 1/2 of the saw table top! I was lucky enough to pick up a molder table insert this way.

As of now I try and keep track of those parts that I find are common between the SS 2K and the Mk5 510 (the 510's 5/8" saw arbor for example fits the SS 2K).

As far as SS 2K caster assemblies go (old p/n 555603), they were one of the e-mail specials. Shopsmith indicated that they were closing out their last 50 sets; they were soldout quickly. The caster assemblies themselves are very similar to the Mk 5 casters (same operating mechanisms, end castings, etc). However, the two rods are about 8" longer than on the Mk 5, and the wheels are 3" diameter (vs 2" on the Mk 5). Unless someone is willing to part with an extra set, I guess you could try and fabricate new rods for a set of Mk 5 casters, but you might be better served looking at the various after market adjustable mobile bases that are available.

I spent the last several evenings working on my new (to me) Sawsmith 2000. I was able to clean up the carriage, repair the sheet metal, replace the missing and rusty fasteners, completely clean the motor, touch up paint, cleaning of the body, and some initial waxing. I also had to do some repair work on the electrical box as it was a mess and dangling so I cleaned out the components, re-seated some of the connections, and wire-tied it in place...seamed to be solid.

I turned it over, reinstalled the saw guard, and installed a nice combo blade and arbor from my 510. I fired it up and it purred! So today I hooked up my DC3300 and tried to cut some scrap wood with the miter gauge and it worked beautifully. I also tried the tilting arbor and radial arm feature and all worked excellent. I can't wait to get this finished and use it. I still need to install the rails, clean up the fence and upper saw guard.

I also will be buying a Shop Fox heavy duty mobile base and extension.

I'll try to post some pictures if I can find some time.

Pretty happy with my new saw so far! A great addition to my new Shopsmith "exclusive" shop.

If anyone has an extra table extension...please let me know, I'll buy it. They were $80 new.
