How did you get your Shopsmith

Post by wdwrkr4life »

I am curious to see how the users of this forum have aquired their shopsmiths, inherited, bought new, or bought used. I bought mine new in 1995.

I bought mine used, from a widow in 2003. Her late husband bought one (or more) of everthing, (ie, the deluxe drill set, never used; tenon master, new in the box; grinding guard and wheels, never opened; both dado sets, never opened; 10 circular saw blades, 4 of which were carbide tipped, among other items. My 510, on casters, also came with a belt sander, band saw and jig saw (all on power stands with casters) plus all documentation. The package also came with the dust collector. All for $2500. I've added the jointer, mortise set, biscuit joiner and lift assist plus a couple of upgrades. Not bad!

Not only did I buy one new with the Dust Collector but also picked up TWO, (count 'em, two) SS (500 and 510) along with the bandsaw, Jointer, Planer with motor, belt sander, and a couple of crates of misc accessories. All for 2000 bucks.

I bought mine on Ebay. I got the 520, drumsander set, belt sander, 4" Jointer, Bandsaw, and the Planer, and a lot of other items for $1200. I have always wanted one and fell into this one.

Hi!! I bought mine from a friend, he's getting older, so he wanted to get ride of it. I bought it for 400.00, he wanted 600. but when I paid him he gave me 200 back, pretty cool huh, he's a good friend.
I guess it's a mk5 from the 50's, it's green. I tried matching the serial # with the ones listed, but mine isn't on the list for years.
Happy woodworking........Curly....

Just got mine yesterday. 1995 Mark V 510. Was used only a month or so and he ended up in a divorce and didn't use it again. Only the saw portion was ever used and even still had the apron in the plastic bag unopened. The woodworking blades etc have never been opened and not a ding or dent anywhere=looks brand new other than some dust. Got everything he received when new, extension table never put up. Has the complete vacuum system too and ended up paying $1200 for everything.

My guess was wrong

I assumed from reading the posts on here that the majority had gotten theirs used, or inherited them. Thanks for the feedback.

I purchased a 520 model with the dust collector and Band saw at a Lowes demonstration last spring. I have added the belt sander, Jointer/planer and many add on accessories. Recently purchased the last of the dedicated motorized stands. Injuries and age are making lifting tools on and off the Mark 5 impossible for me. I had wanted one for many years and prefer buying new tools. My new shop is my retirement present to my self. I love it fjimp
