Is Your House Protected?

“Home, sweet home.” At the end of the day, all you want to do is go back to your safe place: home, where you can leave all your worries outside and relax. However, statistical data shows that there are over six thousand home burglaries every day, which means that every 15 seconds someone’s house is broken into.

Furthermore, as technology has been improved, not only did the burglars break the physical territory of the house, but they would also violate the security of the internet and wireless connection to steal information. If you want to better protect your house from burglaries, we have three suggestions below that you can implement today!

Security Camera

Burglars tend to be more hesitant to break into houses equipped with a home security system, both inside and outside of the area. You can ensure the systems are visible by marking them or putting up a sign showing that everything around and inside the house is under surveillance. The presence of this system warns potential intruders to stay away from your property. There are many top reviewed systems to different home owners’ preferences: Vivint has the best review ever for technology, Protect America is the best of products for budget conscious users and Frontpoint is well known for its customer service.

Secure Doors

The traditional way to prevent burglars is to secure house barriers to entry including doorways and windows. You should consider replacing sliding doors despite their convenience and space-saving benefits, because they are vulnerable to invaders. Traditional doors might be not as convenient for the homeowners, but as the result, they are not quite easy for the intruder to break in. You can install a sturdy deadbolt, add a strike plate, upgrade to a smart lock with video doorbell, or finger scanning lock. To reinforce the security of windows, you can install window bars or replace window glass with pressure resistant film. Another method to obstruct unauthorized trespasses is to plant trees and bushes around your property, especially the prickly ones. You will enjoy having a secured and green house at the same time.

Secure Router and Home Network

Insecure router configurations can expose home owners to risks of hackers hacking into their home network and potentially stealing their financial sensitive information such as credit card number, electronic billing statements, or their personal documents and emails. There are a few simple steps to reinforce your home network security. Firstly, the home owner should change the default admin password immediately to a more complex one when they move in, whether the router was newly purchased or owned by the previous person. Secondly, you can consider changing the router’s predefined LAN IP address to protect against attackers who try to access the router from a web browser. Lastly, the router’s firmware should be set to receive automatic updates directly from the manufacturer to enhance its ability to prevent hackers.

Try Market place or Craigs list in your area or a local saw mill , the mill will cut it to your specs ,some have recommendations to a local kiln , you can usually get it green for and let it air dry at a local mill .
