I have a shopsmith Mark V. I came across 2 parts I can't identify. Are they shopsmith parts? If so, what are they for?

Thanks for any help.

As Ed said it is a Mortise and Hold Down. For the Shopsmith Tools it dates back to the Model 10E and 10ER. When the Mark 5 Greenie came out in 1954 there were some small changes making all the set and cap screws a size using a 5/32" Allen Wrench, the "Shopsmith Toolbox" as it was known. A more recent change was the Hold Down casting followed by the addition of the "T" Nut to the Hold Down's post for use on newer Shopsmith's with the "T" track slot in their fence. The picture below shows three versions of the Mortise and Hold Down. There was also a Goldie painted version like the Greenie one. In 1964 the sleeve in the Mortise and the rod in the Hold Down had the black protective coating added. Originally the current Hold Down did not have the "T" Nut on the end of the rod.

Thank you for the information. Mine is definitely the middle one because it doesn't have the hold down nut. I can't quite figure out how the hold down would work without this. In the pictures, it just looks like it's sitting on the workpiece. I'll have to play around with it :)

I just bought one of these. I haven't tried it yet but I gave it a good looking-at. The rod on the hold-down goes into the morse-taper hole in the top of the rip fence and is held by a setscrew.

That makes perfect sense. I can't wait to try it out. I've got to remove all the rust and want for my bits to arrive but am excited about the find.

The bore in the top of the M5/V500 rip fence is NOT tapered, but a M2 shaft will align reasonably to it. The 5/8" post fits.

My bad. I just had a look at mine and you're right.
