hey all - Likely this has been covered long before somewhere.
Im trying to do some resaw on material thats about 6" wide.
I noticed while switching to my resaw blade, that when I open the bandsaw up fully, the vertical guide shaft impinges
upon the case casting. Just to the right of the bolt for mounting the cover .
2 problems with this
1. I think it inhibits me from getting a full 6" resaw-which I need for my current project
2. It appears like it may actually deflect that shaft away from vertical when it does impinge- not good either.
Heres a pic of the shaft bumping the housing casting.
When its extended fully down onto the table, you can see 1/8" of the shaft protruding from the guide block.
So - since i don't usually work on anything thinner (famous last words) than 1/2" material, it seems like I could cut that shaft length down a bit on top, which would then give me a bit more room on the full open side before I bump into that casting, right?
Im a little concerned that the shaft may already be bent , so likely it will be out of the tool for inspection soon anyways.
Anybody had experience with or have an opinion on shortening that shaft ?
thanks,
b

Re: Bandsaw Throw limited by shaft?
FWIW, here are pictures of my BS made in 1994. As you can see my post does not hit. Also the guide is up as far as it can go. It is stopped by the bottom of the bracket the post slides in. So cutting the post would not result in the guide going higher. I get just over 5 1/2" of resaw capacity.

Thanks John - I'll take a closer look but its clearly hitting that casting at-least a half inch before it could come to a stop.
With the shaft deflection once in contact, im not sure what effect that might have on sawing.

Re: Bandsaw Throw limited by shaft?
Look at the top right corner of the shaft in both pictures. Yours is not quite as high as mine but it is also farther to the left. That seems to be causing it to hit the casting. The lower bracket that holds the shaft has a bunch of adjustments to ensure the shaft is vertical when it moves up and down. If the adjustments are misalligned so that the shaft tilts left vertically it will hit the casting before it goes all the way up.
There is an adjustment procedure in the manual. I did mine many years ago. The thing I remember is that it was a PITA to get correct.

Re: Bandsaw Throw limited by shaft?
Yes-i have the feeling i did go through that procedure when i added the teflon screw that presses against the shaft a year ago.
Hopefully I messed that part up and can start there.
thanks
