JCorr1975,

You said about the Jointer
The backside of the fence has what appears to be “Er” , assuming as in 10-ER but it could be EP….
The 4" Jointer Model 4E Magna Engineering Corporation (the company original formed to make the Shopsmith Model 10E) made is the predecessor to the later 4" Jointer. At the time it changed to the Model 620 in 1954 adding the Mounting Posts to go on the Mark 5 only the Base/Outfeed Table casting changed. Below is my Model 4E Jointer mounted on my Model 10ER for reference.

As you can see it is not that much different than the current Shopsmith 4" Jointer and can use most of the current parts as replacements including all but the Dust Chute from the Retro-fit upgrades.

Interesting! So did it come with the special tail stock?

Used a wire brush to remove the bulk of rust on the legs and then naval jelly. Primed and painted and put some temporary casters on so I could move it around the garage and work on it while I source some retractable casters.

Also stained the wood after much sanding. Cleaned, de-rusted and repainted the head and tail stock.

Yes it did. Here is the manual for the 4E Jointer mounting kit. The headrest end is not too rare but the hinge plate is very hard to find as well as the complete motor pulley parts.

For the Magna Model 4E Jointer, as John pointed out and included the instructions for, does come with a special Headrest. Remember the Tailstock is a different part. It does take time to get to know all the parts. I have been there myself. The Tailstock can be seen in the picture below. It is on the right end of the Model 10ER under the Extension Table which is attached to it.

The bench, especially the wood is looking great. I noticed the Metal Bench Ends are the early ones that did not have the mounting holes for the Retractable Casters. The Retractable Casters made by Magna for the Model 10 benches can be seen in the picture below.

I estimate there were around 10,000 of the Magna Model 4E Jointers made based on the serial numbers I have seen. Probably more of the Mounting Kits were made since the Magna Model 620 Jointer could also be mounted on the Model 10 using the Mounting Kit. That way of mounting the Jointer predated the use of the Power Mount Adapter being used to mount the Jointer on the Model 10's.

As for the Jointer you have it may be possible to use it powered on your Model 10. Mounting it on a small wood platform attached to an Extension Table Bracket and Tailstock it could be run from a pulley to the motor similar to the Magna Jointer. It would sit higher than the Magna Jointer. The pulley on the Jointer should be on the other side of the cutter head shaft, if possible, then where it is now.

I think that must have been what the previous owner had in mind. I am also considering using my motor from the 2nd 10er to make a standalone jointer. At any rate I spent too much time de-rusting to turn back so paint is now drying and blades sharpened. New bearings on the way. Also have to McGuyver some plate connectors that I gently coaxed off with a touch of violence. Found some steel stock at the army surplus so I will see if I can shoot a chunk of metal through my wall grinding some new ones out

And after some digging I finally found the jointer model. I am pretty sure it’s an early 50s AMT jointer

Ok, finished the jointer minus the bearings which arrived yesterday. Now that I’m off of that tangent, I decided to work on the lathe tool rest and pulley cover. I am sooo tempted to paint in into a mandalorian helmet. This is the way.

Nice job on the Jointer. It looks almost new again. Does the shaft go all the way through so the pulley can be in the back side?
