M33 adapter

Post by ScotSunnergren »

Good evening. I inherited three very good lathe chucks from my FIL. Only problem is that they have M33, 3.5 threading.

I have a 1"8tpi adapter for the spindle and got a 1"8tpi to M33 but the threading is a bit short and does not reach very far into the chucks, which worries me.

Does anyone know where I can find an M33 adapter that either fits directly onto the MkV spindle or a converter with a longer threading?

How short is short? Generally speaking the adapters should be OK. The thing that concerns me is the fact that you are lengthening the spindle which will put more strain on the spindle bearings and lead to premature bearing failure. If you only intend to turn smaller objects such as pens or Christmas Tree ornaments you should be OK.
