What kind of wood is this?
Would you guess what kind of wood this is?
This is hardwood flooring. It's old, heavy, and hard. Used 80-grit sandpaper will barely scratch it.
This is a slice off the end of the only used and darkest piece. The same piece with a little mineral oil on it. The face of one of the lighter boards.

Saw on it a little bit and smell. If it smells sweet it might be rosewood. If no smell, might be locust.
If you drop it on concrete and it has a clangy sound, might be rosewood.

Re: What kind of wood is this?
Black Locust - It sure does look like the photos in the Wood Database
Wenge - I don't think this would be a match. The end grain looks different.
Katalox - I only have one dark board. I'm guessing heartwood. The end grain is different.
Rosewood - I don't notice any smell when I cut it, and it does not ring when dropped or struck.
Black Locust is the closest match.

It does look to be BW, what is the weight, does it seem more dense / heavy then normal hardwood?
