Ok -- I bit the bullet and bought a Grizzly 1 1/2 hp dust collector the other day for another smokin' great deal. :-) (Gotta love the Internet!) I'm looking into some solutions for dust collection and I'm wondering how everyone is handling collection in various modes -- like table saw/etc.. I saw someone who makes asplitter/guard that has a pick-up tube for above the saw blade. I have a 4 inch wye connector currently on the machine (6 inch inducer opening). I'm thinking on reconfiguring my dust collector to up the efficiency even further . . . but I'm coming back to those 2 1/2 inch ports on the Shopsmith.

Anyone else run into these dilemma's? How good is your dust collection with the Shopsmith?

So far so good. I hooked up a cyclone lid to my dust collector (Grizzly 1 1/2 hp model) and now I have that 4" hose necked down to the 2 1/2 port on the SS. I don't like how it hangs though -- seems to put a lot of stress on the 510 guard (plastic). The old 500 table wouldn't have any problem with that, but then again it's not as "air tight" as the other one. I plan on making a holder of some type to get the strain off that connection there and make it a bit easier. In dealing with things, I'm also seriously considering solid piping right next to my garage i-beam and then permanently locating the dust collector against a wall on the other side of my garage. So far so good though -- it was nice to not have a pile of dust/chips under the machine.
