Don't use rods. Instead, use pieces of sheet metal that fit tightly around the inside of the container. It has much more surface area and it not only cleans faster but also, you don't have to clean off the junk that gets deposited on it so often. With the rods having such a small surface area, they start to loose thier ability to attrack since they get VERY gunked up. Look at the sheet metal I use in my container. It's in my post :
