That is a Shopsmith Model 10ER although it says only ER. As improvements/changes were made to the original Shopsmith Model 10E it became the 10ER. Yours with serial number R54077 was made in the Western Plant shortly after the changes made to the Model 10ER in April 1951.

There is a PDF of the Model 10ER manual available free of charge through this Forum. Check under the Maintenance and Repair section for Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis. This will be one of the first four topics. In it you will find a wealth of information on the Shopsmith tools. Some are directly linked there and others are on “My Google Drive” with documents too large to be directly linked. Everett has become the Shopsmith historian by saving and restoring manuals and other documents. On his Google drive you will find a folder 10E & 10ER and in that folder is a restored Model 10ER Owner's Guide that will be a very close match to the original manual that came with your Model 10ER. Originally the makers of the Shopsmith tools recommended keeping a light coating of oil on the bare metal parts to protect them from rust and make the parts move easily over each other. The problem with the oil is it collects dust and "gums" things up. Later, after the introduction of the Mark 5 in 1954, they changed and recommended the use of furniture paste wax. An addendum for the Model 10E and 10ER Owner's Guide is the PDF attached below.

Below is a picture of serial number R55037 that I restored that is close to yours. It is shown with everything that would have come with it when new from the factory plus it is on a bench with Shopsmith Metal Bench Ends and Retractable Casters.

The Owner's Guide I directed you to for the PDF copy is a little bit later than your Model 10ER. Most of what is shown in the exploded parts diagram and parts lists are correct for your Model 10ER. The operation of the Model 10ER is the same. The April 1951 date is when the Headstock and Carriage changed from Double Wedge Locks to Single Wedge Locks. Those lock parts are not interchangeable between pre and post April 1951 Headstocks and Carriages. It is these differences that can be confusing when looking for replacement parts. If something doesn't quite look the same between what you have and the diagrams and parts list in the Owner's Guide do ask before buying replacement parts to avoid getting something that is incorrect. A lot of the parts are interchangeable and some parts of the Model 10's remained the same throughout its production from 1947 through 1953. If you have any questions, we are always happy to help.

The Model 10ER in the picture in my previous post shows one with what it came with from the factory plus on a bench. These came with or without a motor when purchased so motors can vary and that one has the optional 3/4 HP A. O. Smith Motor. There are many accessories available for the Model 10E and 10ER not shown in that picture. Some of which you may have.
