Hello All,
I'm new to the forum but I've had my SS for nearly 20 years. I have not used it in about 10. I am looking to have it serviced before I use it again. Is there a best choice in the Los Angeles (Sherman Oaks) area? Also, I would like to get some on-site training as well.

Battles hardware still around?

From what I can tell, they closed permanently in 2018.

Battles Hardware did close. Other than sending it back to Shopsmith for servicing you would have to find someone in your area willing to do it or do it yourself. Actually, servicing the Headstock yourself is not that difficult. Follow the recommended maintenance in your Owner's Manual but since it has been idle so long add a few extra drops of oil to the movable sheaves of the Motor and Idler Shaft Pulleys then recommended. Do this by adding a couple drops of oil and run it then repeat a couple of times to work the oil into the sheaves and shafts. As long as the Headstock doesn't have any issues/worn parts needing replacement you'll be running in no time. Don't forget to use some dry lubricant on the Speed Control moving parts. Since these parts are more exposed using wet lubricants will attract dust and "gum" things up.

It's been sitting for 10+ years and has less than 50 hours use. I figured it would be best for an inspection and any form of lube and (balancing?).
I'm not particularly confident there. I will look at the manual and decide if I'm good to do it.

There's no known expert that travels for maintenance or repairs?

I do not know of anyone who travels doing maintenance and/or repairs. Pre-covid Shopsmith salesman Mike Young did some seminars on using the Shopsmith Tools around the country.
