Arbor For Sanding Drum?

I have the 2-5/16" diameter sanding drum that fits on the shafts of my Mark-V. I would also like to use it on my stand-alone drill press that has a 1/2" chuck. Does anyone know of a 5/8" to 1/2" stepped arbor I could obtain to accomplish this? . . . or something easily modified for this task. (I'd make one but now that I'm retired, I no longer have access to a metal lathe.)

The Shopsmith 1/2" router chuck https://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cat ... shield.htm has 5/8" female socket at one end and a 1/2" socket at the other, so I suppose you could mount short lengths (~1" or so) of 1/2" and 5/8" rod in one, chuck the 1/2" rod in the drill chuck and mount the drum on the 5/8" end.

I recently needed to adapt a SS chuck (Jacobs 3326) to a 1/2” cordless drill, so that I could chuck up a slightly larger workpiece in the cordless drill. A sleeve bushing from McMaster, plus a 1/2” dowel pin, worked nicely for that. The clearance hole for the set screw was exactly where it needed to be.

Perfect. Thanks! My local Ace hardware store has a whole aisle of bushings, bearings and oddball fasteners. I'll see what I can find there, otherwise McMaster will be my next step.

The 1/2" router chuck is pretty useful. I've connected a lot of 1/2" tools using it. In your case it's the opposite situation where you need to chuck up a 5/8" device to a 1/2" spindle, but it should still be useful. The setscrews hold devices like sanding drums nice and tight, no need to over-crank your drill press chuck to hold parts in.
