I've heard of a 10E,10ER,Mark2,Mark5,MarkV, and the Mark7. And the models 500,505,510,and the 520, associated with the 500 series.. Never heard of a MarkIV.

There is a SS listed for sale without pics listed as a Mark IV and I also have never heard of that model before.

Might be it is a joke... you know a sick shopsmith so it needs an IV.... ??? Picture oil bag hanging on stand with tube going down to the sick shopsmith.
Sorry that is the first thing I thought of when I saw it. Also wanted to beat Tim to the joke.
I have seen that name but always figured it was a typo or someone who didn't know any better. Did you happen to google for it?

I think this needs to be researched more. I just came across a advertisement from 1958 that lists a Mark II, Mark IV, and Mark V. I am looking for more just in case that is a typo. Considering that this is shortly after the intro of the II, I am wondering if there was briefly a stripped-down version of the V? Not sure how much they could cut back on the prediction cost. Maybe a non-tilting version like the Mark I?

There isn't a mark I. That's just what somebody is calling a markV with no legs, mounted on a wall.

Anything I have ever seen relating to a Mark IV has been a typo in ads selling tools. I do like Farmers picture of a "Mark IV" but where is the motor? Also why is it a Mark IV when it has seven different functions?
As for a Mark I apparently it did exist as per Scott's article in tool-hunter.com. Before reading his article I would have believed it was also a typo but he was there at Shopsmith during the time. As for where the second Mark I that was returned as a trade in for a Mark V is it possible that the headstock and carriage was put on a Mark V frame and returned to the original buyer? Also are there any parts specific to the Mark I like the Bench Mounts (as shown on the wall mounted Mark I and in the parts drawing) still somewhere at Shopsmith? The Mark I does remind me a little of the Shop Deputy and the function of the Mark I is similar to the Crafter's Station.
