What is this?

I got a box of tools at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago and finished digging through it yesterday. At the bottom of the box I found several Shopsmith items including the item show here. It appears to be a small extension table for a Shopsmith accessory, but I’m just not sure which accessory. Please chime in here.

Miter gauge slot extension for a 500. I had to ask the exact same question when I got mine! ;-)

Hopeful is correct. It is only for the original Table for the Mark 5/V aka 500. As I learned not to long ago there are two versions. Yours is the second version that can fit on both the early cast on fence rail and the later bolt on fence rail. The early version only fit on the cast on table rail. It gives you an extra 7" for the Miter distance to the blade. The picture below shows one in place.

Very useful on 500 tables. If you need to cross cut wide boards you need the extra table slot distance in front of the blade to use the miter gauge,

505626, I think. Not sure it that is for the cast-rail only version, or the more versatile cast OR bolt on rail version.
Shopsmith.com lists a Model 500 Front Table Extension under its SAWING accessories, but the link does not work.
Typing in the part number above yields no results either, but I found that number somewhere once upon a time.
I purchased my first one on ebay, and was unaware of the difference between the two versions. The cast-rail only version did not work on my Mark V 500 with the bolted on front rail.
Attached are pictures of the differences (photo credit unknown, as that doesn't look like my table). Version 1 is on left, version 2 is on right.

robodad,
The link in the online catalog goes nowhere since it has been discontinued like many Original Table System parts aka Model 500. There are many of those dead links throughout the catalog. Something hopefully the new shopsmith.com will correct.
The pictures in br549's post above show the two versions of the clamping part and either will work on a Mark 5 Greenie with the cast on fence rail. All later Mark 5/Mark V 500's beginning in 1960 with the bolt on fence rail need the second version of the Front Table Extension.
As for the actual part numbers they were 22 351 prior to 1964 and 505626 beginning in 1964 when all the part numbers changed. Since you will have to buy this used the part numbers don't really matter.

Wow, lots of good info. It fits right on the Mk5 with the bolt on rail, thank you all so much. Too bad they didn’t make a version of this for the 510 or 520.
