If one was to fabricate a tube assembly the proper length, would it be possible to set the OPR up vertically in the SPT/extension table position rather than on the way tubes? Thanks in advance - Alec

Hi,
I'm not sure how you planned to do this but keep in mind the extension tables use a smaller tube, 1-1/4" if I recall right and the table and OPR mount on the larger tubes (1-3/4"???). I guess if you had some thing built to take care of that issue the other one would be how stable it would be... we have heard about the lathe end "flexing" so I'm not so sure how this would work once you put the weight of all the parts in place.
It would be interesting to see if it can be done as this would be yet another way to mount things giving you your table saw/sander/??? while having the OPR use able at the same time

It would seem possible to me. You would have to fabricate offset inserts from the tubes to fit into the holes in the headrest. Then you would need some kind of stabilizing fixture to get the tubes at the right distance apart. Probably by putting a spare base arm on the top end. Then you would need another carriage.

I have a couple of concerns with the idea. Frist is the weight of the OPR. Second is the amount of power the router generates and potential twisting of the stock being cut. Okay three concerns, the OPR is used buth vertically and horizontally. It seems to me the design could become rather complicated. Keep in mind please both the table and the OPR ride on the tubes. Having said all of this, someone will most certainly come up with a design that runs circles around the current design. I can't wait to see it. fjimp
