Ok, thanks for the reply.

Since you own one, where would I find the serial number, looked briefly but didn't see one. I expect the manual to arrive tomorrow or Monday.

The sn is on the vent plate surrounding the lower spindle. Your vent plate appears to be absent.

Yes, no plate on the lower left spindle, I was curious if some where their might be a stamp, possibly in the casting.

Also , you will find a ton of info on all things Shopsmith in Everett's, thread at the top of the maintenance and repair section.
Click the " Shopsmith Large Format drawings" thread ,then click the RED "my Google Drive". There you will find all things SS info including a section on the 1960's SS Mark VII's.
The manual arrived today, it also includes supplemental sections, parts manual section. It's a restored manual from Everett Davis, (V1.02). Since you mentioned Mr. Davis and his thread.

MichiganTom,

Unfortunately, the copies of the manual you purchased on ebay are not from Everett but someone profiting from Everett's work. Sadly, it is difficult to impossible to stop sellers like this. For anyone needing Manuals for Shopsmith tools look at other resources first and don't buy copies from ebay sellers. Almost all of those are available somewhere for free just like Everett's contributions here.

Something I noticed in your pictures is the #2 Moorse Tapper Lathe Drive shown in the red oval in the picture below. This is not useable on a Shopsmith of any model. Many stand-alone Lathes use these for their drive ends. I am not sure what the item is in front of the Drill Chuck. It is nice to have the Live Tailstock Cup Center.

Did your Mark VII come with a lathe chuck? The gadget to the right of the Morse taper drive looks like a SS adapter for one.
