Hello from Michigan

Post by MichiganTom »

Hello,

I was looking for a introduction topic, didn't find one so thought I would just post an intro here.
I just purchased my first Shopsmith, a Mark VII, Yuba American. Came with plenty of attachments, bandsaw/router table, blade for table saw etc. Unit to me is in good working condition, speed cam is aluminum, dials and responds. Only issue I see coming is the rack gear plastic and some damage.
I found a manual on-line, should arrive in the next few days.

Looking forward to some fun projects.

Yes, Magna American,

Since the right manual hasn't arrived yet, I haven't really started going through the unit to perform any maintenance.
And I'm not even sure the manual will cover that, so I might ask some questions.

Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a recent thread on replacement rack pieces on Ebay and how to replace the rack.

Also , you will find a ton of info on all things Shopsmith in Everett's, thread at the top of the maintenance and repair section.
Click the " Shopsmith Large Format drawings" thread ,then click the RED "my Google Drive". There you will find all things SS info including a section on the 1960's SS Mark VII's.

looks nice Tom. Pretty much like mine except it looks like you have a different start switch. No big deal as long as it works for you.
Hope you have table, rip fence and miter gauge there someware

Yes it came with table, rip fence, miter, blade, then fence for the band saw, table extension, several chucks, live end, flat grinding wheel, several size round sanding drums, and some other chucks. I'll get out tomorrow and get a few more pictures.

Question, is there a better place for me to post than here in the community forum? Sorry learning my way...

Glad you have all that stuff especially the table and rip fence as they are pretty hard to come by nowadays; sometimes they come up on ebay. Most SS mark V works with the MKVII but some things are unique to the MarkVII only.
Posting here is fine unless you have maintenance or woodworking comments/ questions, then post in the other sections.
