Does anyone know when the double bearing quill started? Was it only on the 510 & 520 models? Or did it start in all models in a certain year? Appreciate any input.

Asked the same thing myself and received this answer:
wa2crk wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 11:56 am I believe it was about late 1983 or very early 1984. As I remember it was immediately after I got mine which was in mid 1983.

Just got off the website and found a date of 11/01/1984 for the introduction.

The Conventional Headstock, not power pro, is the same for all Mark V models, the new Mark 4 and the elusive Mark 1. The difference in the Mark V models is the Table/Fence System, not the Headstock. Once the Double Bearing Quill was reintroduced all Conventional Headstock Marks had it. The Double Bearing Quill was introduced in 1984. This is not counting the fact that all Shopsmith Model 10E's and 10ER's had a Double Bearing Quill. Hence the use of the term - reintroduction. :D
