Amazon special on Delta

This morning, (March 27), Amazon announced a sale on the Delta 50-760 1.5 hp 1,200 cpm vertical bag dust collector for half-price, $375, (normally $724.).
By comparison, the SS 3300 is 330 CPM 1/2 hp and $549.
Worth considering. Also, no sales tax and possible free shipping.

Been there & got that. But, in my little 13X26 room, it sounds like an F-15 revving it's engines.
I'm setting it outside the shop in a little 3X4 lean-to shed. Also, it is wireable for 220 VAC and I recommend that. This thing runs 16 Amps at 110.

tgiro brings up a very good point. Most of these Asian dust collectors exceed 85 dBA @ 3ft., and as you go higher in HP it gets worse. Yes, We can wear hearing protectors in the shop, but what about the rest of the family members in the house. If I were to put one of those dust collectors outside my garage in it's own enclosure, I suspect my neighbor would soon be knocking at the door.
The DC3300 certainly has to be one of the quietest units on the market. As far as HP and cfm are concerned, a dust collector has to do two basic things; first, keep the air velocity in the tubing at a velocity above 3500 cfm, and then have enough volumetric capacity to evacuate the dust and chips away from the tool as fast as it generates them. My DC3300 sucks up almost everything from my Pro-Planer even when I'm planing a board almost 12" wide. I can watch it all go into the plastic bag. This is my worse case tool in this respect. While a larger dust collector would also satisfy these conditions, this "overkill" costs us in terms of space, noise, and electrical capacity. There are many woodworkers today who are grossly oversizing their dust collection systems thanks to the magazines and their "test reports".
That said, Shopsmith would be better served by making the 42" one micron bag the standard. It is nice however that Shopsmith includes two 8' hoses, a two section wand, floor pickup, dusting brush and six plastic bags. None of the Asian units include these accessories.
