I'm an idiot

Post by HopefulSSer »

I'm potentially buying a new house and am going to have to move within the next year or so. I need to save my pennies and seriously declutter.

That's why this evening I brought home a 510! :D The current plan is to upgrade my Greenie (it has some sentimental value) to the 510 tables and also put the newer quill etc in the Greenie headstock, then sell the downgraded Grayie 500 for whatever I can get for it (with full disclaimers of course).

I like the idea of the bigger tables, better (i.e. any at all) dust control, and better safety with the t-slots and all the anti-kickback stuff that enables....

Moving can be a large undertaking as I can attest to. After more than a month of going back and forth between our old house and our new one plus 4 moving trucks and crews (1 just for the Shopsmith and other tools) we finally got the last of our stuff out of the old house last Sunday. Now comes the task of re-organizing everything at our new location including the shop. Don't ask me to find anything quickly in the shop. Just because you are going to be moving in the near future doesn't mean you need to stop having time with your tools. There will be that time to stop as the move is close. My one word of advice is start sorting NOW to get rid of the things you no longer need/use before the move starts.

Might as well rename this place the Idiot's Club if that's the definition you're using.

Last time I moved was in 1979, after that experience I decided I did not have a reason sufficient to ever make me move again. The only blessing in the 1979 move was it was after our house burnt to the ground in 1976 so we really did not have much to move although you would be surprised to see how much you can accumulate in just 3 years. I am here and until they carry me out I am staying!😂

Unfortunately this move isn't entirely by choice. Life circumstances and all that. I've been in this house for 20 years so there's a lot of accretion...

In 24 years in the USAF I moved 8 times. The government payed for everything so that helped.
