Other sources for conical sander sandpaper?

Finally got the sander that I bought from a late March email special. The sandpaper is backordered  and SS is not sure when they'll get more in. Not much I can do with it without paper. I know it's not likely, but does anyone know of another source for the conical sandpaper? Anyone had any lucking making their own?

Never done it, but it only makes sense that you can make your own. Ideally, you wood need one for a template, but you should be able to cut them out of the "Pressure-sensitive aluminum oxide Sandpaper Disks" SS #'s 505840]think[/I] that SS is the only manufacturer of the conical disk and therefore nobody else provides disks for it.

P.S. Welcome to these forums, Vincent!

Vincent:

I'll be glad to send you a set of 3 disks, fine, medium, and coarse. Send me your address in a PM.

Since I will be leaving for the Upper Peninsula on Friday morning, my supply of conical disks will sit here in Gainesville, unused, all Summer. You can reimburse my supply when your order eventually comes in.

This post is one of the best examples of why this forum is what it is. One member offering another member, sight unseen, a set of sanding disks. All he asks is "replace them when yours come in."

Kudos to you 8iowa.

I sent 8iowa a PM and accepted his kind offer. I hope to be able to return the favor someday.

8iowa's sandpaper arrived yesterday. Still no word from SS on the backorder. I'll clean up the conical disc in the morning, apply the sandpaper and give it a whirl. Thanks again, 8iowa. I hope your move to the U.P. went well.

Vincent:

Glad you got the conical sanding disks.

After attending the wood turning class in Atlanta last week-end, we arrived in the U.P. on Wednesday, and are still unpacking and clearing up several "surprises" that the long Winter shutdown always has in store for us. I did a stupid thing last fall and left three vintage hand planes on the garage floor - the soles are now rusted. I hope they will clean up.

The "Workshop in the Woods" is in great shape and I'm anxious to get to work. The 26.4K baud rate here is reallllllly slooooow, so my computer activities will be lessened somewhat.

I get 12” disks from Harbor Freight and they have a great pair of sizzers for 99¢. Cut straight to the center and then a 2 ½” dia center; and spray lightly with spray adheasive.

Thanks, Cowboyplus, I may give that a try, but I think SS just shipped my BO'd discs.
