Many thanks to a related post from member Majones1, for an inspiration!

I particularly liked the heavier base on that one, and I decided to take it a bit further.

Generally you can see development to this point:

Early basic "triangle" joinery; these are Oak sides atop a Sassafras live-edge base:

Making the Oak sides a bit thicker in appearance, and adding a glass-retention feature, by lamination of some of the offcuts from the superb SS Bandsaw:

Recovering from a very careless/stupid footstep -- broken glass! -- forcing more border-work on the bottom corners:

Current stage of assembly and checking:

I've been able to finish recently.

My 2022 guitar project had some "kit" mahogany thin planks that I had set aside in favor of my own walnut. This wood is now employed for a case-back:

Here's some shots of the fully assembled tribute. This flag is from my Dad's 2009 funeral. During handling of the hallowed flag, I heard some clinking, and discovered a neatly enclosed packet of the bullet casings from the military salute.

The heavy base on the flag case looks great. And the cabinet it is sitting on looks pretty special also. The cabinet doors are beautiful. Very nice work!

Many thanks!

The cabinet was a project about 5 years ago. Those doors are bookmatched Ash.

Best Regards,
Chris
