Chistmas Gifts

Post by john »

I have been busy making a few gifts again this year, as I'm sure many of you have.

The first items were five bread knives (no pictures but similar to what I have done in the past). The nicest one (maple and purple heart) went to a grandson and his wife along with a matching cutting board I had made several years ago. Two others went to my wife's bowling league and card group as prizes at their Christmas parties.

The last was a music box for our youngest great grand daughter. The box is made from oak and walnut and plays Brahm's Lulaby as the tune. The hardest part was deciding what to put on the front and in the end we just used a photo from the internet. I am attaching pictures.

I hope you all have have a Happy, Safe, and good year in the shop!

John

That's a beautiful gift, John, and a great idea!

How does it sound, and where did you get the musical movement?

Thanks for the comments! Always nice to get feedback.

The musical movement was purchased on Amazon. It's a Sanyo 12 note movement and little tinny but ok for a two year old. There is another supplier in the U.S., "The Music Box Attic" that has a much wider selection and I suspect better quality in some of them but with the exchange rates and shipping I opted for the amazon one.

I am in the process of making another but again trying to decide on the picture for the front. My wife and I have a slight disagreement on the theme. The tune on that one will be " You Are My Sunshine" I will post if and when it ever gets completed. :)

Take Care
