What’s Going On With All This Page Read Activity??!

Post by jpdalton »

Has anyone noticed the massive increase in page view activity here over the last month or so??

I started and have been consistently contributing to my “Share your Magna memorabilia!” thread for the last couple of years, and I was generally pleased if a new post got 500-600 views (based on the figures posted under each uploaded photo) over the course of a few weeks. Some of the earliest posts had worked their way up to ~3000 views over a year+.

Just in the last few weeks, however, all the pages in my thread have suddenly jumped to 40,000+ views! And it’s not just my thread - the thread on the new Shopsmith web site is over 3/4 of a million views in just over two months…

Has there been some massive influx of membership to explain this? Are all the existing members suddenly exceedingly active again? Or is some sort of bot contributing to this??

Anyone else notice this?

I have noticed it. Bots or web crawlers looking for something, or amassing data, or patrolling for incorrect speech. Up to no good.

The Arpanet/Internet was supposed to be a robust communication platform, but it has now become a global superhighway for fraudsters and future tyrants. With no off-ramps.

When "Google search" started, I could not imagine how such incredible information-power could be offered "for free".

We will soon see what the full price will be. Face it, we all now live in a surveillance-state, and that's that.

It is odd. My post from 2 days ago showing the Goldie I restored already has over 37,000 views. The thread itself has over 800,000 views. Even this thread started just over 5 hours ago has 582 views.

That’s interesting. My “Who is online?” view doesn’t show user names. Is there a setting I need to change?
