I had a major failure when one of the flanges on the Speed Control Bracket that holds the Quadrant Assembly, broke. In the process I gouged up the metal strip on the Quadrant Assembly. I'm thinking I'll just purchae the whole speed control assembly #504198.

I had sent my powerhead off to the guy who rebuilds them on EBay when I first got the shopsmith the only thing I didn't like when it came back was that the speed control turned hard and seemed to be out of allighnment like maybe the shaft it tuns on was bent.

I want to be sure I correct that problem while I'm ordering new parts and it's all apart. Looking at the parts list the only thing I can see that might cause uneven resistance in turning the speed control would be the worm control shaft #504216. That part could be included with the assembly above or it might have nothing to do with how the speed control turns. Maybe there's something else that would likely cause the speed control to turn with uneven pressure.

What do you suggest?

Lorens - Just recently, I had uneven resistance when turning the speed control. The culprit was the idler gear was canted. My situation was because the High Speed setscrew was also canted.

In my case this was because I had stripped the threads in the hole. Here's hoping that your situation is because the jam nut is loose, or something similar.
