Out here, $3/ Bd Ft would be a good price. you are correct on just over $4 bf however, it was not maple, it was bloodwood and s2s, surfaced two sides and it was ready to work not green. big difference. we are fortunate that maple is plentiful here in the midwest. in other countries our common woods are sought after or considered exoctic. while we want their common woods that are exoctic to us.charlese wrote:Out here, $3/ Bd Ft would be a good price. Spalted Maple wouldn't be my choice for cabinetry of furniture, But it does have favor with some turners. To me it is like using blue stained pine. Incipient decay like blue stain adds some pretty figure sometimes. I don't know much about the term spalting, but from the wikipedia source, it also, is color from the beginning (incipient) stages of a decay. Once dry, the fungi will not continue to grow.
