Still in my first month with the SS.

My old Ryobi Saw had a power outlet on the side with a cord that goes to the switch that turns it on. So I was easily able to hook up a dust collector to turn on each time I started the saw. This seems like a pretty useful thing to do on shopsmith. Has anyone done this or have similar solution?

Also, I noticed that when I saw, I first turn on the Shop Vac, then the saw. The saw draws so much power that there is noticable change in pitch of the dust collector. I has 12 ga wire in the walls (wired it myself) and a 30amp breaker. This shouldn't happen right?

Hi racer,

I hope that you have made a mistake in your description to us. It is oakay to undersize a breaker, but it is never allowable to undersize the wire. A 15 amp breaker requires a minimum wire size of 14ga; a 20 amp breaker requires a minimum wire size of 12ga; a 30 amp breaker requires a minimum wire size of 10ga. If you truly have 12ga wire in your circuit, you must knot use a breaker larger then 20 amp. Please change that 30 amp breaker out!!! That being said, you are right, "This shouldn't happen right?", even if the breaker is the wrong size. How long a run is your 12ga wire between the plug where the SS is and your electric meter (not the electric panel)? How long a run is the wire between the meter and the power company transformer? There could be too much voltage drop if those are long runs...
