(Noob here) I upgraded my SS 500 with a 510 table, trunnion, fence, blade guards, etc.
I was looking to get a saw arbor because the ones I have from my SS 500 don't fit properly - skiving knife won't line up with the saw blade.
Seemingly everywhere that arbors are discussed for the 510, they reference that it uses a 1-1/4" arbor.

However, I don't see how that could possibly work for me.
I have a 1-1/2" arbor that is too SHORT, therefore, a 1-1/4" arbor would be worse.
I have another 1-1/2" arbor I can add a spacer to make it 1-11/16" and that allows the skiving knife to align with the saw blade.
However, I can't use it because the bolt-end of the arbor extends too far and hits the part of the lower blade guard bolted to the underside of the table.

Can't someone please point out what I am doing wrong?

1-1/4" is the diameter of the hole in the saw blade. It's been the Shopsmith standard for years. However the rest of the industry settled on a 5/8" arbor. If you want to use blades that you can get locally, go for the 5/8" arbor.

As you note, 500 arbors are shorter than 510/520 arbors and indeed the riving (not skiving) knife doesn't line up.

If you want to use 1-1/4" blades, you want this arbor

Thanks for the response and clearing up my confusing on arbor sizing and nomenclature.
I will have to check my blades (gifted to me along with the SS 500) and see which arbors they need and if any are worth keeping.

If you have a saw guard like the one in the attached picture (most 505, 510, or 520), you adjust the riving knife position in relation to table saw blade by adjusting screw pointed to in the picture. This screw sets the guard alignment to the blade.

I knew of this capability but, my problem is that my old SS 500 arbor is too short so the saw blade impinges on the 510 blade guard, therefore, adjusting the stop out would only push it further against the saw blade.

But, I do have the correct arbor coming now.

That blade guard screw is for minor adjustments. You still have to have the correct arbor for your table system. A 500 arbor will not work with a 510+ table as you have found out.
