Try making sense out of the pieces(and extra pieces)! It had Me STUMPED last night!

I did not see any thing that looked familiar other than the obvious items.(rubber bands, etc)

I had trouble with the rubber bands.

I have one of these but have never used it yet so I'm not a lot of help. It looks somewhat different than mine but I believe it is probably just older or newer than mine. I don't recall a number on mine but I haven't looked at it in a while. I bought mine used from a list friend and it came in a metal box. I get the impression from the way the box was made and some things I read that you could buy the basic chuck and kind of pick and choose which giblets you wanted to buy.
Going from memory (dangerous) the more sharply curved spanner wrench holds the chuck body and the more straight one turns the outer lock/adjusting ring. The 4 orange slice pieces are jaws and it appears to have a set of jaws already installed in the chuck body according to the second picture. I'm sure they are two different sized sets of jaws. Mine will grip in a turned cavity in the bottom of a plate or bowl etc. or will also grip on a piece from the outside. The cone shaped piece is what forces the jaws closed or open as you turn the outer ring. I don't recall if I ever figured mine all of the way out or not.
I don't think I ever came up with six functions unless two of them are throwing it at stray cats.
Mine didn't have instructions.

I intended to say that I have a 3 jaw universal chuck that came with a Shopsmith I bought and for quick use it does well and I don't have to think so hard.
I'll try to post a picture of it but the way my luck has ran today don't count on it...
The picture is from Grizzly and I'm pretty sure thay carry one with 5/8" plain bore.

I think what you are seeing is a chuck with the jaws unattached. It also appears to be upside down. It appears to have a insert installed for some other lathe and a Shopsmith insert in the upper part of the photo. The long curved pieces are wrenches. The rubber bands go around the jaws after they are installed to keep you from loosing knuckles.
If you look at this Patriot chuck you can see the red rubber band with the trade marks in place.

I've acquired some shopsmith parts of late and was wondering, I have three jacobs chucks, two have allen head set screws and one has a standard or straight screw for the set screw, did shopsmith ever use anything but the allen head set screws in their chucks?
