Is there a reasonable way to ship something of this weight from the States to Australia??

Re: Part needed for 10ER in Sydney
That is my issue, the shipping is almost three times the cost of the part for the US. But if that is only way to get one be good to get the shopsmith going again.

Re: Part needed for 10ER in Sydney
Do you need all the parts for the Carriage shown in your example? If it is only the Carriage casting itself that would reduce weight and shipping costs.
There were three versions of the Carriage, so it is important to get the correct one. The first was the one with the double wedge lock. That is the one shown in your picture. The second and third are interchangeable having the single wedge lock. The difference is the casting of the two with the third Carriage version weighing less. The picture below shows the three versions of the Carriage casting. All other parts, table post locks, the positioning stud & nut and the Table Riser Crank are the same. There were two versions of the Table Riser Crank with different handles. The Tabel Riser Crank you show is the later version and the most common. If you have all the other parts and the lock is the single wedge type finding the third version would be lighter to ship. Because the change to the third version was late in the Model 10ER production they do not come as often in online sales. I am providing you this information to help in deciding what you actually need and can use.

Re: Part needed for 10ER in Sydney
mikeshopmalone,
If you are still with us there is one for sale on ebay by seller dualquad302 for $28.50 USD. It is the version 1 Carriage having double wedge locks and the early style crank handle with all but the positioning stud and nut. He does ship to Australia. You would need to contact him about shipping costs.

Re: Part needed for 10ER in Sydney
Versions 1 and 2 outwardly will look the same and the difference is a double or single wedge lock. Any of the three versions will work as long as they have the correct lock.

Re: Part needed for 10ER in Sydney
Thanks for everything, I managed to find the carriage under some old lathe parts and have got my shopsmith back in action!
