Good day everyone. I'm new to the forum and to SS. I'm looking at a 510 that's about 2 1/2 hours away. How long is the 510 and with all tables removed, how tall is it with it's legs still attached? I have Thank you and great forum!

Re: Dimensions needed please
It's about 5ft. long at the bottom of the legs. The height of the way tubes is 32". if the headstock is mounted the top of it is about 42" from the the floor.
However, the best way to move a Shopsmith is to take off the tables, then remove the legs. Both of the 2 leg units are mounted to base castings with 5 screws. Then you have the remaining bench assembly that is about 4'6" end to end and will fit in almost any vehicle. There are several threads on the forum with detailed instructions on moving a Shopsmith.

Re: Dimensions needed please
Trever,
Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.
As Ed said, the more you disassemble it the easier it is to fit in almost any vehicle. I recently moved a Mark 5 upgraded to a 510 with a Jig Saw and Bandsaw almost 1200 miles in our Ford Explorer. That included our luggage from the trip plus more. Just an example of how they can be moved. It all depends on how much you disassemble it. In that case it was disassembled a lot including the SPT's. Most of the time I move Shopsmith's in our minivan without any disassembly.

Re: Dimensions needed please
Russ, I just want to point out that it doesn't save much space to remove the headstock or take apart the tube and base castings. Certainly take off tables and accessories mounted on the ends. But with just the legs and tables off the remaining assembled bench with tubes, castings, carriage and headstock still on it can fit across the back seat of most cars or easily in the back of a hatchback or SUV. You could take the legs off even to carry it in a truck bed or van so there's no worry of it tipping over.chapmanruss wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 1:00 pm

Re: Dimensions needed please
You are correct Ed. I was pointing out the extremes of what can be done to be able to transport one. Anyone moving a Shopsmith only needs to remove enough to have it fit in the vehicle transporting it.

Re: Dimensions needed please
Thank you all for your advise. I'll see if I have to remove the legs to fit into my truck. The one I was looking at just sold, but I have another 510 in my sights that's about 2 1/2 hours away. Thanks again.

Perfect! My Maverick's bed with the tailgate closed is 54" and 43" fender well to fender well.edma194 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 3:03 pm It's about 5ft. long at the bottom of the legs. The height of the way tubes is 32". if the headstock is mounted the top of it is about 42" from the the floor.
